In my classroom

Where ideas turn into games

Here are some games and activities I made for my classes. You can try the first five right here. The others happen live in class, where the whole room becomes a market, a courtroom, or a jury.

Strategic Management

SWOT Blaster Play it

A five-minute arcade game in three waves. Sort findings into the right SWOT box, figure out which statements are real strategic issues (and which are just complaints), then beat the boss. A perfect run unlocks a certificate students turn in for credit.

Analytics for Decision Making

Target Practice Play it

Same engine, built for my online analytics students. Name the segmentation base, read each customer's recency, frequency, and spending to call them best, at risk, or new, then take on the boss wave about targeting and lift.

Strategic Management

BCG Snake Play it

The classic snake game, run through the BCG matrix. Feed your snake Stars and Cash Cows, steer clear of Dogs, and answer each Question Mark to decide whether it deserves the investment. Grow the portfolio to earn the certificate.

Strategic Management

Strategy Match Play it

A memory card game. Flip two cards to match each business-level strategy with a real company that uses it, then match each key idea to its meaning. Every match explains why the pair belongs together, and there is no way to lose.

Business-Level Strategies Open it

A one-stop study page. Students learn Porter's generic strategies with clickable examples, test themselves with a practice quiz, and then use the Assignment Helper, which walks them step by step through analyzing the strategy of a local business.

Strategic Management

The Jelly Market

Students trade candy in a market I've quietly rigged. News breaks, newcomers push in, giants show up with whole boxes, and a substitute appears. Only after the dust settles do they find out they've just lived through Porter's Five Forces.

Strategic Management

VRIO Court

Each team puts one company resource on trial and claims it's a lasting competitive advantage. The class plays jury and prosecution, hunting for the weak spot like a real competitor would. The team gets one minute to defend it before the verdict comes in.

Strategic Management

What Killed Target Canada?

Students vote on what sank Target's Canadian expansion in week two. They vote again in the last week, after a whole semester of tools. Comparing the two votes shows everyone how far their thinking has come.

Strategic Management

Facts vs. Interpretation

A short case where opinions are dressed up as facts. Students mark up what the evidence actually shows versus what someone just concluded. It's a small habit that makes every later analysis better.

About AI

AI is in my classroom, on purpose

My students use AI tools to brainstorm and draft, and then critique what the tool got wrong. I'm open about how I use AI myself: it helps me prepare materials, I check everything before it reaches students, and it never decides a grade.

Where I've taught

Four schools, lots of formats

North Dakota State, Emporia State, Virginia Tech, and Cleveland State. That includes 110-student lectures, accelerated online graduate courses, and a diversity course I taught on site in China. Right now I teach Strategic Management (in person and online) and Analytics for Decision Making.
